Balochistan Unrest Intensifies
In Pakistan’s Balochistan region, insurgents have intensified their actions against the Pakistani Army. The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) released a video claiming that it had taken Pakistani soldiers hostage. The group stated that the man seen in the video is a Pakistani Army soldier named Mohammad Sharam.
In the footage, the soldier identifies himself as Mohammad Sharam, son of Mohammad Riaz Ali, from Sheikhupura, village Qila Amir Singh. He states that he joined the Pakistan Army in 2020.
Seven Soldiers Reportedly Captured
According to reports, the BLA has captured seven Pakistani soldiers. The soldiers were shown kneeling in uniform in the released video. The organization reportedly adopted tactics similar to those used by militant groups to pressure the Pakistani government.
In a statement issued by the BLA’s media wing, spokesperson G.N. Baloch claimed that during the second phase of Operation Herof, 17 Pakistani security personnel were taken into custody.
Operation Herof 2.0 and Casualty Claims
Operation Herof 2.0 was launched in January by the BLA against the Pakistani Army. The group claimed to have carried out coordinated attacks across 14 cities in Balochistan, including a series of blasts targeting the army and other security forces.
The BLA claimed that 200 Pakistani security personnel were killed and several others captured during the operation. However, the Pakistani Army acknowledged casualties but stated that 17 soldiers were killed.
The BLA has given the Pakistani government a seven-day deadline to formally agree to a prisoner exchange. The group stated that if the government responds within the set timeframe, the seven captives could be released in exchange for Baloch prisoners. The organization also alleged that previous proposals were not taken seriously by the Pakistani authorities.
